Having started performing together in 2008, Bennett & Perkins released their first CD, The Kitchen Music Sessions, in the summer of 2010. The pair performs a bold repetoire of original music as well as their distinctive interpretation of american and traditional music that highlights their unique vocal and instrumental talents. Their repertoire includes artists as diverse as Richard Shindell to Karla Bonnof to Hoyt Axton; plus a growing number of original tunes that hold their own.
Bennett & Perkins both bring vocal and guitar playing abilities to the stage. But what makes their music special is how their individual strengths so well complement each other.
Thom Perkins began playing guitar at age 8 and was playing country fairs and coffee houses from Connecticut to California in the 1960s. His guitar playing is influenced by blues and ragtime and is often compared to Richard Thompson and Jim Kweskin.
Over the years, he has shared the stage with the likes of Pete Seeger, Jonathan Edwards, Bill Morrissey and David Francey. Perkins performed a series of workshops and shows in the Madeleine and Cape Breton Islands of Atlantic Canada including the Red Shoe Pub in Mabou, Nova Scotia. He is a long time resident of Jackson, NH.
Kathy Bennett is a classically trained vocalist who also began playing guitar as a child. Bennett on her own plays an eclectic mix of blues, rock, and folk. In the early 90’s, she performed in folk clubs in the Boston area and has opened for Martin Sexton. Kathy startles the audience with her at once gutsy and lacy vocals. Kathy is a Boston-area native who relocated to Madison, NH in 2003.
The duo recorded The Kitchen Music Sessions at Langdon Brook Studio. Engineered by the pair’s friend and fellow musician Davey Armstrong, the recording took place in the kitchen of his antique Maine farmhouse.
After releasing the CD in summer 2010, Bennett and Perkins have been frequent performers throughout New England, including multiple appearances at Ossipee Valley Music Festival, Maine’s largest acoustic music festival. They have been playing a variety of concerts and festivals this summer and are excited to be playing this latest concert in Madison so close to home for their friends and neighbors.
From the White Mountains of New Hampshire comes a unique blend of harmonies and guitars from the duo of Kathy Bennett and Thom Perkins. The pair performs a startling array of original songs with powerful lyrics and melodies, coupled with exceptionally strong vocals and guitar playing. The duo released their second CD in September 2012. Entitled "House on Fire, the album is a powerful collection of original songs and a natural continuation of their music from their first CD "The Kitchen Music Sessions" (2010).
